Here you can immediately join the dialogue about any and all the issues involved in the future of the humanities, and comment on the thread as it evolves. While we encourage you to visit the more specific issue pages and comment there, please feel free to start with a posting below. We're especially interested in hearing concrete proposals or about initiatives already underway. What should we DO with regard to all these pressing issues?

  1. Not sure where to post this, but in response to the theme of this blog, I could not help but recall how inspirational a read Martha Nussbaum's book, _Not for Profit: Why Democracy Needs the Humanities (2010)_, was for me. She gets into the nitty-gritty of the greater, neoliberal agenda set on devaluing the humanities and dismantling their influence on future generations. I highly recommend this book be read in undergraduate coursework.

  2. Thanks Cathryn. I share your admiration for Nussbaum's book, which I write about (briefly) in my review essay on the crises in academe, which you can find in our "Academic Labor" section.
